Child Development Services

Plaza Community Services provides child care to the most economically disadvantaged families in East Los Angeles. Many of the families we serve are blue collar workers who earn less than minimum wage.  The child development program give priority to children that have been abused, neglected, referred by the court and children from low income parents who work, attend school or are seeking employment.

Plaza has two Child Development Centers in East Los Angeles. We serve 98 children ranging in age from 2 to 6 years old. It includes two Toddlers classrooms, two preschools and two kindergarten classrooms. Each classroom is staffed by a qualified Teacher and an Assistant Teacher, working under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and Director. The centers are open from Monday to Friday, five days per week from 6:30a.m to 6:00p.m. to meet the families rigorous work schedules.  We provide two healthy meals and two healthy snacks.

Activities for the children are based on the Creative Curriculum, which is a research based curriculum. The teachers offer activities that promote and support learning and cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical development.  The program provides:

  • A balance of indoor and outdoor activities each day.
  • All children are encouraged to participate in all activities.
  • A balance of teacher-initiated and child-initiated activities.

Each child’s progress is assessed based on the Desired Result Developmental Profile.  Children are assessed within 60 days of enrollment into the program and  twice a year thereafter. In addition, we utilize the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scaleand a parent survey to evaluate the program to assist in making program modifications to improve the quality and delivery of services.

Currently, programs are offered at two convenient locations:
